United Way of Adams County - Meal Packing Event

From 2009 to 2011, Feeding America reports the number of Adams County residents faced with hunger has dropped 2.2% from 8,370 to 6,900. Even with this progress, one in ten people still struggle with hunger; roughly 27% of these individuals are not eligible for federal food assistance and turn to food pantries to fill the meal gap.

Working with Outreach, Inc., United Way of Adams County has a unique opportunity feed the hungry by hosting an event to assemble ready-to-prepare meals to distribute to our county pantries. In just two hours, approximately 60 volunteers will measure dry pasta into pouches, add seasoning packets and vacuum seal the pouches. We have the potential to create over 4,100 packages that, when cooked, yield 25,000 servings of protein-fortified macaroni and cheese.

Volunteers who want to help should call our office at (217) 222-5020 to register.
